Teacher Accreditation Program & Personal Accreditation Program | |
| General Information on Classes | The Teacher Accreditation Program
and Personal Accreditation Program is no longer offered at
our workshops due to low attendance over the past years. Students That Have Already Started The Program We have not forgotten those that have taken the time to start this program and we want to continue helping you achieve your personal goal of becoming a better harmonica instructor. Though there are no more training classes on-site, we have worked out a way for you to continue the testing process. For those that want to work directly with David, he does accept fly-in students at School of the Blues in San Jose, California. Students can do much of the PA Testing (skills testing) via tape correspondence and can take the written and oral Teacher Accreditation Test at any workshop location, though you must contact David Barrett ahead of time to work this out. There is no additional cost to the program (over standard registration cost) if you take a test on site as long as you assist in at least 50% of the classes (which was part of the old TA program anyways). If you are not assisting in classes, the fee is $50 for TA testing. There is no cost for PA correspondence testing. Please contact David Barrett via email if you would to do this. Information About the Old Program The Teacher Accreditation Program is a multi-year, multi-level process. This program is open to intermediate to professional participants who want to start teaching harmonica or to advance their current teaching skills. Classes include training on: techniques and concepts important to each skill level player; student evaluation and building lesson plans; approaches to both private and group instruction; and how to utilize material from the Harmonica Masterclass Complete Blues Harmonica Lesson Series. Year 1 - The first year accreditation process consists of taking your level 1 skills testing (PA-L1) and TA-L1 training. Year 2 - The following year participants will take the level 2 skills test (PA-L2), TA-L1 test, and receive TA-L2 training. You are welcome to observe and assist in any class that you wish to over the weekend. After completing your TA-L1 test you are ready to teach beginning students. Year 3 - The following year participants will take the level 3 skills test (PA-L3), TA-L2 test, and receive TA-L3 training. You are welcome to observe and assist in any class that you wish to over the weekend. After completing your TA-L2 test you are ready to teach intermediate students. Year 4 - The following year participants will take TA-L3 testing. You are welcome to observe and assist in any class that you wish to over the weekend. After completing your TA-L3 test you are ready to teach intermediate students. This separation of skill and instruction testing in multiple levels allows for greater depth and smaller, more attainable steps towards becoming a Harmonica Masterclass Accredited Instructor. Becoming a Harmonica Masterclass Accredited Instructor does not mean that you will teach Harmonica Masterclass Workshops. The class is designed to help all skill level teachers become better instructors. Upon passing any level of the Teacher Accreditation Process your name and contact information will be place on the Teachers in Your Area page. We want to help you be successful at what you do, even after attending classes. TA & PA Participant Completion List This is a list of participants that have completed TA & PA classes successfully. Good job guys! |

Testimonials...
“This is the most comprehensive harmonica training I know of or have ever experienced. Dave Barrett and staff are excellent teachers and really know how to "teach" harmonica. The mutual support with other harmonica players also was excellent.” -
Charlie Williams, NY 2002
“Having
traveled from the UK to attend Harmonica Masterclass Workshops in 2000 and
2001 and then missing out on a class in 2002, it is now evident to myself
having now completed level three classes in 2003 that this is the highest
level of blues harmonica education anywhere in the world that your money
can buy.” Keith Bell, NY 2003
"It's been over two months since I took the Teacher Accreditation
Program and I am amazed at what an immense impact the weekend workshop has had
on me as a teacher and a blues harp player. Amazingly the workshop has had an
equally significant impact on my guitar playing and every aspect of my music. I
am writing you this letter as a thank you and a testimonial to anyone interested
in becoming a Harmonica Masterclass Certified Instructor.
I have been teaching harmonica for approximately thirteen years privately and
at various schools and universities and had considered my teaching method
relatively refined. However, since taking The Teacher Accreditation Program, I
have had a renewed excitement and confidence in my teaching strategy and my
ability to support students of all levels. Before taking the workshop I was
already convinced that David's instructional publications were revolutionary.
However, I was even more impressed with David's ability to teach harmonica
players how to teach. Students that had been only been playing for a year or two
were able to walk away with a systematic approach to harmonica instruction.
David is organized, personable, and genuinely committed to inspiring people. And
I've got to say, if you don't already know, he's a down right unbelievable harp
player. If you're thinking about taking the class, do it. You'll love it!" JP Allen, Austin Texas - April 2001
participant.
"David, I feel that I have to say something about the Harmonica
Masterclass Teacher Accreditation Program (HMTAP), but I am not sure what extra
praise and credit that I can reap upon yourself and the course that somebody has
not given to yourself already. The only item of where I differ from the
other students is of the extra expense occurred by myself to attend the course, i.e.
the travel from England etc.
At various times before the course I obviously had some small doubts about whether
the expense occurred by myself was going to be worth the value of the
instruction that I was going to receive, but now after completing the HMTAP I
can totally recommend to any person traveling from any part of the globe that
the expense is definitely worth the value of the instruction that they will
receive.
This is probably the only harmonica course anywhere in the world where you
can gain such great knowledge. The HMTAP at $349 for 40 hours expert tuition,
i.e. $8.7 per hour must be the best and lowest tuition fees that I have ever
paid to receive such valuable instruction."

"The Harmonica Masterclass Workshop in
Austin, Texas was outstanding. Your instructional approach allows students of
all ability levels to participate, learn, and grow together in their harmonica
playing and technique. You provide a supportive environment for participants and
this allows them to progress through your materials at an effective pace. Your
materials build techniques in a purposeful way that insures that all students
build their harmonica skill and techniques foundation a firm ground. I really
enjoyed the opportunity to meet and play harmonica with the other participants.
My favorite part of the Masterclass was writing 12 bar verses with other
participants and then performing them for the entire class. I plan on
attending another Masterclass next year! I have a lot of techniques to work on
between now and the next class!
On a side note, I did meet a Masterclass participant who live only a couple
hours drive from my house. He was attending his second Masterclass and has
agreed to give me some lessons... what a great opportunity for continuing my
harmonica technique growth and development!!!!
I'll keep in touch! Please pass on a big thank
you to David Light too.... he sure has great skill as an instructor... I
especially liked his honest and calm approach as he shared how he has developed
over the years as a harmonica player... he really encouraged me!!!!!
Thanks again, Stu Yager, Pueblo West CO - Austin Texas 2001
