 Norton
Buffalo is regarded as one of the most Soulful, Versatile, and Incredible harmonica players in the business. In Rock, R&B, and Blues circles,
as well as in Country, Jazz, and New Age circles, he is widely acclaimed as
the finest multi-genre harmonica player of our time.
Norton has been a highly celebrated member of The Steve Miller Band for twenty three years. In a much different musical direction, Kenny Loggins has
also recently included Norton as a featured member of his band in recordings
and at shows across the US. Over the years, Norton has recorded his sought
after brand of harmonica playing on nearly 100 albums with such notables as
Steve Miller, Elvin Bishop, The Doobie Brothers (Including the Grammy Award
winning Minute By Minute), Bonnie Raitt, The Marshall Tucker Band, David Grisman, Juice Newton, Johnny Cash, Laurie Lewis, and many others. Norton
recorded two well received albums for Capitol Records in 1977 & 78 The first
of these Lovin’ In The Valley Of The Moon, garnished two Bammies from the Bay
Area Music Awards. Norton later teamed up with legendary Bay Area slide guitar
player, Roy Rogers, for two albums. In 1992 their performance on Song for Jessica, from their Blind Pig release R & B, was honored with a Grammy
Nomination. In 1993, Norton and Roy were honored again, when they were voted
“Best Overseas Blues Performers” by Australia’s blues radio programs and
readers of Blues On Air magazine. In 1989 Norton was voted Blues Harmonica
Player of the Year by the Bay Area Blues Awards, and Musician of the Year by
the Sonoma County Art Awards.
You have heard and seen Norton in other entertainment fields as well. His harmonica graces the images of several Garfield and Peanuts cartoons. Norton
also sang the first theme song for the Garfield and Friends cartoon series.
Television has also been good to Norton, with recent appearances on Bay Area
Backroads, The Sleazy Arms Hotel, as well as numerous television performances
down through the years with such notables as Bonnie Raitt, Steve Miller, America, Steven Stills, Graham Nash, Lacy J. Dalton, Kris Kristofferson, Roy
Rogers, and Willie Dixon, even a guest appearance on Starsky & Hutch. Norton
wrote the music scores for two episodes of Unsolved Mysteries and played harmonica on several episodes for both The Twilight Zone and Unsolved
Mysteries. Norton is no stranger to the talk show circuit having appeared on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno The Arsenio Hall Show, as well as The David
Letterman Show.
Norton has 10 movies to his credit. He had an acting role (and performed in
the band) in the 20th Century Fox smash hit The Rose with Bette Midler. Norton
played the part of a Private in the Wyoming National Guard, in Michael Cimino’s classic epic, Heaven’s Gate. Norton has also composed and produced
all of the music for two feature films, Eddie Macon’s Run starring Kirk
Douglas and John Schneider, (for Universal Pictures) and Stacy’s Knights (one
of Kevin Costner’s first films). Other films he contributed his harmonica
mastery to, include; Dogpound Shuffle (with David Soul), The Doors (with Val
Kilmer), 68 (Featuring Niel Young), and Blood Beach.
Currently, in the Valley Of The Moon, Norton has just completed his newest Blues CD, King Of The Highway, with his band, The Knockouts, a dynamic and
diverse R&B/Blues/Rock band that frames the incredible depths of Buffalo’s
harmonica, vocal, keyboard, songwriting, and performance talents.
