Lick-A-Day^TM Email Study Course!

Whether you are creating a solo spontaneously, or working on ideas for a song that will have a discernable repeated melody, they both rely on small musical ideas called licks to make the whole.  These licks come from what you’ve learned in the past, modifying them slightly to fit within the context you are playing within (tempo, groove, feel, etc.).  Soloing is all about “been there, done that” with the feeling and creativity of the moment—weaving these “been there, done that” licks or movements into a melodic flow.  Your ability to solo is directly related to your lick vocabulary.  This is where Lick-A-Day^TM comes in. 

Once a week you will receive an email with five MP3 files.  We exclude weekend files to allow time for you to incorporate that week’s licks into your soloing.  Lick-A-Day comes in modules focused on specific techniques or concepts.  This way you are learning new licks to grow your musical vocabulary and exercising a group of techniques.  Each module runs from two to seven months in length.

When listening to a file you will hear these items in this order.
1) Lick: Lick is played once.
2) Holes: Hole numbers and techniques used to execute the licks are stated.
3) Lick:  Played one more time with a count off.
4) Special Comments: If a lick is used in a specific location or serves a specific purpose, it will be stated. 

The learning of each lick alone will not achieve the goal of growing your lick vocabulary.  These licks need to be placed into context and practiced.  Upon purchasing this program you receive a PDF file detailing how to successfully implement this program to achieve the highest level of results for your practice time.  Due to the highly portable nature of MP3 files, the licks can be studied anywhere.

Detailed below are the current modules available.  More modules will be added over time.  The total study time for a module is stated next to its name.  The number in parenthesis after each subject area indicates how many weeks is spent on that particular technique.  You can start anywhere within the series you wish.  Just send us an email at lick-a-day@harmonicamasterclass.com after purchasing and inform us which module you want and where within the module you will like to start.  For best mastery of a module, author David Barrett recommends that you start at the beginning of each module.
